Death by Chocolate
Forget the cake, one bride says, "Bring on the chocolate!"

When A Grand Wedding co-founders Dave and Georgie Hockett were getting married back in 2003, they questioned everything 'traditional' about weddings. "I don't even like cake, " said Georgie. "I knew that my friend Jess made the best chocolate decadence in the entire world. And while it's not a typical wedding cake, I just had to have it." Jess, a former chef, whipped up the chocolate creation - complete with the raspberry puree side - and banded the five layer cake with red, silk ribbons and live flowers, plucked from the bride's bouquet.

Because the couple was paying for the wedding themselves, they looked for areas to save and areas to splurge. By having the cake donated by Jess' kitchen, the couple was able to allocate funds to other wedding areas.

"To this day, people still talk about that cake," muses Georgie. "It was even more meaningful that our good friend, and great baker, made it for us."

"I was happy to make it and proud to be a part of the wedding," said Jess. "Driving it to the wedding location was a little nerve-wracking, but the cake made it in one piece!"
